Since 2008, Construction Companion has brought real construction experience and legal knowledge together to build contracts that help tradespeople protect their livelihoods, clarify expectations and work fairly with customers. From our United Kingdom beginnings to the United States in 2010 — and the next chapters in Canada, Australia and Europe.
OUR STORY STARTED ON THE JOB — NOT IN A BOARDROOM
Construction Companion started in the United Kingdom in 2008, developing bespoke, made-to-order contracts for the construction trade. Every request came with a practical problem to solve: a disagreement over additional work, a delayed payment, an unclear scope of work or a customer who needed better information before signing.
The United States followed in 2010. Across both markets, those conversations helped shape a growing understanding of what tradespeople need in writing — and what their customers deserve to understand clearly.
Bespoke contracts written to address specific trades, jobs and disputes.
Trade and legal experience applied to the American construction market.
Local trade contributors and legal development preparing new country-specific libraries.
Exploring more construction markets across Europe, with national requirements leading the work.
FROM THE JOBSITE TO THE DOCUMENT
Across our teams and trade-contributor network in the United Kingdom, United States, Australia and Canada, hundreds of people bring hard-won experience of construction projects and disputes. Contractors tell us what caused the problem. Trade specialists turn those accounts into practical drafting priorities. Legal professionals help shape the terms for the country and jurisdiction where they will be used. The aim is straightforward: better expectations, fewer avoidable disputes and fair treatment on both sides of the contract.
Payment stages, due dates and what happens when the schedule slips should not be a guessing game.
Extras, change orders and variations need a clear approval process for everyone involved.
The work included, excluded and expected at completion should be understandable from the outset.
Clear responsibilities and proportionate ways to raise concerns can help stop small issues escalating.
We don't just ask what a contract should say. We ask what it could have prevented.
HOW WE DEVELOP OUR CONTRACTS
Our roots are in bespoke construction agreements, built from the situations tradespeople actually face. We still bring those lessons to the drafting table: first the jobsite problem, then the contractual question, then the legal requirements of the country or state, province or territory where the agreement will be used.
Contractors and construction contributors share the issues they have met on projects, including disputes, delays, scope changes and lessons learned.
We translate patterns into practical contract questions: what must be agreed, explained, documented or approved?
Legal input relevant to the country helps shape the terms around applicable requirements, consumer protections and commercial realities.
We work towards documents with clear language, logical sections and space for the job-specific details that make each project different.
PROTECTION DOESN'T HAVE TO MEAN CONFLICT
A contract shouldn't exist to intimidate either side. It should set clear expectations, support accountability and give both parties a more professional starting point.
Tradespeople put their time, skills, reputation and livelihood into a project. We focus on the situations that matter to them.
Customers deserve to understand what they are buying, how changes will work and what they can reasonably expect.
FOUR COUNTRIES. DISTINCT LEGAL LANDSCAPES.
Construction law is not interchangeable across borders. The UK has different legal systems; the US has 50 states; Australia has state and territory requirements; and Canada has provincial and territorial rules. Every Construction Companion market deserves its own contract-development approach.
Built by people who know British construction from the scaffold, the site office and the final invoice.
Our UK work began with bespoke contracts made around individual trade needs. Today, Construction Companion UK supports roofing, solar, electrical, plumbing, general building and other specialist trades with practical agreements, subcontractor documents and business terms.
We bring the lessons from real disputes into clauses covering payment, variations, access, delays, handover and responsibility — developed with consideration for the legal requirements and working practices involved.

England and Wales share a legal jurisdiction, while Scotland and Northern Ireland have their own legal systems. Construction and consumer requirements can differ by the work, contract type and location. That matters when selecting or developing an agreement.
Contracts built for the people who build America — and developed with the reality of state-by-state requirements in mind.
Construction Companion has operated in the US market since 2010, building on the bespoke, trade-led approach that began in Britain. American contractors face a different mix of state requirements, project risks and consumer expectations. Their agreements should reflect that.
From residential remodeling and roofing to solar, HVAC, electrical and commercial contracting, our US collection focuses on the issues contractors encounter in real jobs, with legal input appropriate to the jurisdiction and the product.
EXPLORE CONTRACTS BY STATE ↗THE UNITED STATES / 50 STATES
There is no single set of construction-contract rules that works identically across every US state. Consumer notices, contractor licensing, deposits, payment protections and dispute procedures can vary. Federal, municipal and project-specific rules may also apply.
Canadian trades are already putting their project experience into the work.
Canada is not just a future name on our map. Trade contributors in Canada have already drawn on real contracting problems and past disputes to develop early contract material. That experience is being taken forward through jurisdiction-specific legal development and review.
The goal is a Canadian contract library that speaks to the trades, reflects the relationship between contractor and customer, and takes the relevant provincial and territorial requirements seriously.
CANADA / PROVINCES AND TERRITORIES
Across Canada, construction practices interact with provincial and territorial law. Prompt-payment frameworks, builders' lien or construction lien rules, consumer protections, contract requirements and language obligations can differ.
Written with Australian construction experience at its foundation, not a British document with the names changed.
Trade professionals in Australia have already contributed contract ideas and early drafting informed by the disputes, variations and payment issues they have seen first-hand. That practical experience is being worked through alongside local legal considerations as the Australian library takes shape.
Our priority is to respect the way Australian builders and trades operate — and the different state and territory frameworks that shape their responsibilities to customers.
AUSTRALIA / STATES AND TERRITORIES
Australia has a national building-code framework, but state and territory legislation governs many construction-contract requirements, including licensing, domestic building work, payment procedures and consumer protections.
THE NEXT HORIZON / EUROPE
With the UK and USA established and Canadian and Australian contract libraries in development, our longer-term work turns toward more of Europe. We plan to explore national construction markets through to 2030, building relationships with trade contributors and appropriate local legal professionals as each market is assessed.
Europe is not one construction-contract jurisdiction. A contract for a project in one European country cannot simply be rebadged for another. The country, language, customer protections, payment rules and contracting practices must come first.
European expansion is a development roadmap, not an announcement of available products or confirmed launch dates for individual countries.
ABOUT OUR WORLDWIDE NETWORK
Our history, our contract-development approach and what each country needs to know.
Construction Companion began in the United Kingdom in 2008, initially making bespoke construction contracts to order. The United States business was established in 2010. Both markets are part of our wider Construction Companion story.
Yes. Construction Companion UK at www.constructioncompanion.co.uk and Construction Companion USA at constructioncompanioncontracts.com are the official regional websites of the Construction Companion brand. Each serves its own market.
The United States has 50 states with differing requirements affecting construction contracts. Licensing, consumer notices, payment arrangements and other legal obligations vary by state and sometimes by municipality or project. Customers should review the particular product's stated state suitability.
Both countries have their own legal frameworks, regional differences and construction practices. Australia has six states and two mainland territories, and Canada has ten provinces and three territories. Our development work uses local trade experiences and legally relevant regional requirements rather than replacing country names in an existing template.
Our current targets are spring 2027 for Canada and summer 2027 for Australia. Development has begun, including early contract work informed by people in the trades. These are target dates and may change as legal review and product readiness progress.
Further European markets are on our longer-term roadmap through 2030. This is a phased plan, not a claim that contracts are available for all European countries. Each country will need its own trade research and legally appropriate drafting process.
No agreement can guarantee that. A clear, balanced contract can help both sides agree the work, price, payment arrangements, variations and responsibilities up front, and can provide a written framework if things go wrong. The correct document depends on the job and applicable law.
CONSTRUCTION COMPANION / ESTABLISHED 2008
From bespoke contracts made to order in 2008 to established UK and US markets and the next phase in Canada and Australia, our purpose hasn't changed. Good contracts begin with an understanding of the work — and respect for both people signing them.
Construction Companion provides contract templates and general information, not individualized legal advice. Laws, suitability and required notices depend on the location and type of work. No document guarantees an outcome. Canada and Australia remain in development, with planned 2027 launches; European growth remains a longer-term roadmap.
